A Bit Misdirected
When Martin picked me up at the KFC in Prague while we were waiting for the rest of the team to get back from their little detour to Dresden, he asked if I was hungry. Why yes, I haven’t eaten since 7am. It’s now 2pm. Off we go along the scenic route to the airport to find a restaurant.
While we were eating, Martin gave me the run down on the activities of the week, mainly those of our little day trip on Sunday.
“We have the van until Monday. So tomorrow I think we will take a little trip.”
Ooh, where too? Have I been there?!
(Ignores the question that is focusing on me for the moment.) “I think first we will go to church in Tlučná. Petr is preaching and he has invited everyone.”

(Squeal.) OOOHH!! I’ve never been there! I’ve been wanting to go to a service there!
(Arches eyebrow, satisfied that he has picked a good activity.) “Then after the service I think we will go to Mariánské Lázně for a little walk around.

(Pointedly looks at me for my reaction. I have at this point stuffed my face with more of my fried cheese and can only make noises and nod my approval while frantically chewing so I can in fact comment that I took a taxi there once. He doesn’t wait for my story.)

“I think we will test some of the spa water and then we will go a bit farther to this great restaurant that is by a swamp—”
WHAT?! A SWAMP!?! We’re eating lunch at a SWAMP!?!

(A slow smile starts to creep across his face.) “Yes, you want to go to new places and I think, Jen, she has not been to the swamp for lunch. That is perfect. It is a nice swamp. There are walkways over the swamp. After lunch we can go for a walk through the swamp.
Are there creatures at this swamp?
Yes, Jen. You might see some ducks. Are you afraid of ducks?
No…swamp monsters? Is there a Czech version of the Loch Ness monster?
“Maybe. After the swamp—”
Where we’re going to find monsters after lunch.
“—we will go up to this castle which is very nice.”

“And then we will finish off the trip at Karlovy Vary.”
OOOOH!!! YES! I am excited to go there. I haven’t been yet.

“And then on the way home, we will eat because it is very expensive in Karlovy Vary.”
Around this time, we finished eating, paid and left to go locate the team members who hopefully were back from Dresden. First words out of my mouth? We’re eating at a swamp tomorrow!! Martin just rolled his eyes.

The next day, we ate at the swamp. It wasn’t nearly as entertaining as I was hoping — in fact, it was really quite lovely. And no appearance was made by the Loch Czechy. Massive disappointment.
